The Menina's Bandaged Ear
The Menina's Bandaged Ear
The Infanta Margarita painted by Velázquez in 1659 is transfigured into a 20th century icon through a simple handkerchief. This work speaks of the importance of symbols and how an icon such as Vincent Van Gogh's self-portraits from 1889 in which he appears with a handkerchief on his head because he had cut off his earlobe. Two simultaneous portraits. A simple handkerchief changes the meaning of both images that merge here to make us reflect on artistic creation.
